Workshops and Classes for groups in sewing and pattern making

All Workshops take place in a fashion studio in Alexandria. 

Maximum 6 people, minimum 3, in each workshop - ensuring all students receive an appropriate amount of individual attention.

Sewing Workshops:

Saturdays are Sewing Days - once you get started you won't want to stop!

Workshop 1: 'Sew What?'

This is a 1-day (5 1/2 hours) sewing workshop for beginners. Bring your own sewing machine and learn all about how to thread it, wind a bobbin and understand other things like fixing the stitch tension. Learn a number of sewing techniques including different seams, darts and inserting a zipper. At the end of the day you will have sewn a small project for yourself.

What to bring:  

Your sewing machine and a reel of white thread - good quality. Fabric scissors, pins and tape measure.                                               Wear filled in shoes and comfortable clothing.                         Something to eat for lunch – we will have a short break.

Workshop 2: 'Stitch it Up!'

This is a 2-day (11 hours) sewing workshop for people with some sewing experience. Bring your own sewing machine, commercial pattern and fabric. Learn all about cutting out efficiently and understanding fabric grain. Find out all the trade secrets to finish your garment so that it looks professional.

What to bring:  

Your sewing machine, commercial pattern, fabric suitable for the style and matching thread of good quality.                                   Fabric scissors, pins and tape measure.                                               Wear filled in shoes and comfortable clothing.                         Something to eat for lunch – we will have a short break.

Pattern Making Workshops:

All Pattern Making Workshops take place on Mondays or Wednesdays.

Workshop 3: 'On Your Blocks!'

This is a 10-hour workshop which takes place 1 evening (2 1/2 hours) a week for 4 weeks. Learn the importance of measuring up a body correctly and how to choose a pattern block size to suit the measurements. Make adjustments to the pattern block before making a toile. Learn how to fit and alter the toile to then produce your own personalised blocks ready for pattern making.

What to bring:  

Paper scissors, lead pencils, eraser, sharpener, pins and tape measure.                                                                                                 Wear filled in shoes and tight fitting clothes such as leggings and single for measuring up accurately.

Dates:  Wednesdays, 6.30 – 9pm                                                                           February 8 - March 1

Cost:    $265 (3m of paper included). Pattern making rulers and tracing wheels may be purchased from teacher for $30.

Workshop 4: 'Strategic Design Manoeuvres?'

This is a 10-hour workshop which takes place 1 evening (2 1/2 hours) a week for 4 weeks. Now that you have your very own blocks, come and learn the basics of pattern making such as pivoting darts, panel lines, tucks/pleats and many more elements of pattern design. The knowledge you gain in this workshop will enable you to create your own designs.

What to bring:  

Your personal blocks, along with a simple design you would like to achieve.                                                                                                 Paper scissors, lead pencils, eraser, sharpener, pins and tape measure.                                                                                                 Wear filled in shoes and tight fitting clothes such as leggings and single for measuring up accurately.

Dates:  Mondays, 6.30 – 9pm                                                                                  March 6 - March 27

Cost:    $270 (3m of paper included). Pattern making rulers, 3m more paper and tracing wheels maybe purchased from teacher for $36.

 

Workshop 5: 'Clone Clothes!'

This is a 12-hour workshop which takes place 1 evening (3 hours) a week for 4 weeks. Being able to sew is a must to recreate your Cherished Clothes. Learn how to take patterns from your best-loved clothes and reproduce them again and again in many different fabrics…… you don’t even need to unpick them! Make slight design changes or fit alterations to your new patterns of these treasured clothes.

What to bring:  

Some of your favourite clothes - we will start with a simple top such as a T- shirt.                                                                                         Paper scissors, lead pencils, eraser, sharpener, pins and tape measure.                                                                                                 Wear filled in shoes and comfortable clothing.

Dates:  Mondays, 6 – 9pm                                                                                      February 6 - February 27

      Wednesdays, 6 - 9pm                                                                           March 15 - 29 & April 5

Cost:   $320 (3m of paper included). Pattern making rulers, 3m more paper and tracing wheels maybe purchased from teacher for $36.
